I set goals for myself. I’m generally a lazy person but I am super ambitions. That combination isn’t always the best. But I’m trying – and one of my current goals is to become a morning person.
By “morning person” I don’t mean that I have to be all sunshine and sparkles at 7:00 in the morning. I’m talking about getting up early and getting shit done like a real adult. Go to the gym in the morning, eat a real breakfast in my home and not at my desk at work, make my bed everyday. There are so many little things a person can do to be somewhat of a “morning person”, even if they’re not human until their first sip of coffee.
Here’s my list of tips and tricks to better yourself as a morning person by someone who literally hates the morning:
Set an alarm clock and put it across the room
This will force you to get out of bed to turn off your alarm and at that point then you’re already up. Some alarms even have a setting where the volume slowly increases every 5 seconds. Not only is this annoying as hell, but it will annoy your roommates, too. So don’t be inconsiderate.
Make your bed the minute you get up
This stops you from getting back into it bed. It may be the most tedious thing you do all day, but it’s such an important step. Also, even if you do NOTHING for the rest of the day… at least you made your bed.
Buy some good breakfast foods that get you excited
You will look forward to eating that delicious asiago bagel or avocado toast that you just bought. You will NOT look forward to cold cheerios and a sad frozen waffle. Treat yo’ self.
Get to the gym
Going to the gym in the morning is the ultimate sign of a person who has their shit together. You’ll feel great for the rest of the day – super energized and very productive. Even if you go for 20 minutes, you still technically went to the gym and that counts.
Buy decent instant coffee
Coffee shops make the best tasting coffee money can buy. Kuerigs do not. Invest in a decent instant coffee – test out new brands! You may find one you like more than Starbucks. This will save you around $4 every morning and that adds up. Also, coffee with your breakfast will help you wake up a little more before getting your day started.
