Wow! This weekend was something for the books. I finally got to check a big thing off my bucket list: attend the world famous Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany!
The trip began with a bike tour of Munich. We biked around for a few miles and saw fantastic buildings and learned certain things that Germans do. For example, if there is any old on a building or a statue then that part of the structure faces west so as the sun sets it hits the level that the gold is on and the gold sparkles. It’s to show the wealth and power that the Bavarian culture had. Also, a few buildings were reconstructed after World War II and they were beautifully done to match the old architecture. Germany really tried to keep the old style architecture when rebuilding, rather than building brand new and modern structures.
The bike tour also took us to the Chinese beer garden that is apparently the largest one in the world. Here we got to try all different types of foods such has half-chicken and bratwurst and it was so worth the money. The Chinese garden is located inside the English garden – one of the largest city parks out there.
Saturday was the big day for the trip. We all woke up at 5:00am to be standing read and in line by 6:15 in the morning. Here we waited for two hours and watched the sunrise with thousands of people in line. By 9 am we RUSHED inside and it was a mad house. The name of the hall we were in was Hofbräu which is, apparently, one of the biggest tents and hardest tents to make it into.. HENCE THE WAKING UP AND BEING IN LINE AT 6AM! It was such a cool experience to be at Oktoberfest and trying all of the food and drinks. Everyone was in dirndls and lederhosens, too!
This definitely was my first time here, but not my last. I can cross Oktoberfest off my bucket list but I think I’m now adding “Make it back to Oktoberfest” to my bucket list.
Bye for now!
