Thrifting has always been a popular past-time among young fashioneers who just want to get that on-trend look for less. Many people, like myself and maybe even you, like to switch up their look from time to time. They have mastered the art of mixing and matching and have grown to be fearless with their outfits. Wear what you want and rock it! I’m here to show you how to find the best pieces at any thrift shop with these tips.
- Go in with a purpose. Are you browsing the racks for a new fashion piece? Some staple items? Maybe you’re looking for a cool jacket? Or honestly, maybe you’re in the store to snag some cool home decor. Whatever it is, know what you will be hunting for before you walk into a thrift shop. This way you’re focused, excited, and determined to find what you are searching for.
- Don’t follow the sizing. A lot of clothing is made by different brands from different decades. Sizing varies across all different brands, so don’t limit yourself to just the size rack that you’re used to. Look at all the sizes and try everything on. NOTE: Don’t avoid the children’s section either! Some of their largest sized things may fit you! Especially jeans!
- Step out of your comfort zone. Thrifting is all about wearing unique pieces! Don’t be afraid to try on that sweet beaded jacket or those retro white sneakers. This is what it’s all about, people!
- Bring a friend. Thrift shopping alone can be tiring and you might overlook items! Bringing a friend to the store is not only a grand ol’ time, but you’ll be able to swap finds with each other!
- Get over the smell. Everything can be washed! Don’t stick you nose up at the idea of thrifting – you’ll be the one truly missing out if so.
- Think outside of the box. When you pick up a find, imagine it paired with items from your closet. Image yourself wearing that vintage tea-length dress with heels and cool accessories. It’ll take your mind away from where it came from, and focus it more on where the piece could go!
- Challenge yourself! Plan to not spend more than $20 while you’re thrifting and challenge yourself to put together an awesome outfit!
Hopefully these tips helped you open your mind to the world of thrifting! Keep an eye out for my thrifted hauls and thrifted challenges!
