It’s fierce, makes a statement, but acts as a neutral all at the same time. It’s animal print and it’s back and better than ever.
Leopard print, snakeskin, and even a tiny bit of cow print has made it’s way back into the fashion world this winter and spring, and I really don’t hate it. In fact, I’ve obtained a variety of leopard print myself in varying types of garments. From mules to silk skirts, I’m almost all leopard-out. So what is the big deal with these patterns this year?
It’s one that’s lasted the ages. If I were to pick a print amongst the wild ones that are on trending homepages of Forever21 and H&M, it would be the classic black and brown big-cat colors. The reason? It goes with everything.
The funny thing is,
Animal print is overlooked. It was deemed tacky by some or cruel by others. You really couldn’t win if you were a fan of wearing the furry (or scaley) creatures outside. Now, I’m not sitting here saying that I’m pro-fur because I’m not but I do appreciate a beautiful piece of leather. Is there a difference between the two? Probably not, but this isn’t the place to go all PETA on me. Please.
Styling It Right Is The Trick
Incorporating an animal print into your wardrobe is easier than you think. What you do have to be aware of is the types of shapes, fabrics, and styles that you like and know that you rock well. I stuck to satins and silks only when incorporate these bold patterns into my daily wear because I typically only wear those fabrics when I’m adding a statement piece anyway. This way I’m able to modify my look to compliment the eye-catching leopard spots.
Throwing on a pair of cheetah shoes is the easiest way to turn your look to the wild side. But one major tip I have to be careful when mixing patterns. Lately, pattern mixing has made its way back onto the runway and I low key am loving it. I don’t think it’s been mastered with, however. A spotted shoe and a plaid pant may be a little much, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s next fall’s vibe. My girl Cara Loren rocked it so why can’t we?
