Recently I hit the blogging landmark of 10,000 followers on Instagram and I still can’t believe I can now say that. It was a long journey, and it wasn’t easy, but I’m hoping that these tips and tricks can help you grow your blog or Instagram into its full potential! I, myself, am still learning new techniques constantly, but that’s the beauty of social media. Instagram is a funny thing, really, and the way that it has helped bloggers like myself grow a brand is truly amazing. It’s proof that anyone who’s serious about this can do it!
Also if you’re a small blogger like myself who are growing their brand, comment your handle below! I love checking out your guys’ feeds because you spark so much inspiration for me! Let’s all be frrriieennnddsssss.
Growing Your Instagram Tip #1: Patience Is Key
The first thing I tell people when they are trying to grow their Instagram is “patience is key”. As cliche as it sounds, this is imperative. I started my Instagram back in 2016. Although, I did not become serious about growing my account until about a year and a half ago. I’ve watched my feed grow, transform, and turn into what it is today but it took a very, very, very long time. Don’t let this discourage you! Everyone has to start somewhere, and only the ones who truly want to reach these goals will make it. So if you’re one of those people who dream big and hope to grow your blog or Instagram someday, then you’re already on the right track!
Growing Your Instagram Tip #2: Build Lasting Relationships
They say it, but you don’t believe it until it happens: Making internet friends. Internet friends bring me back to my middle school and high school days where I’d spend hours on websites like Tumblr and Buddy4U (if you know, you know) where I’d have a variety of friends whom I’d never met before. Instagram is basically the new version of this. I’ve made so many friends through this app and some of them I’ve ever met! WHICH IS AMAZING! Blogging is all about supporting each other and being each other’s cheerleader. If you’re going to be competitive with your brand, then you will have a hard time building genuine relationships with other bloggers in the same boat as you.
Growing Your Instagram Tip #3: Post Quality Content
Not to state the obvious, but people follow your account or blog because they want to see your content. Whether that’s photos of your daily outfits, vegan recipes, travel diaries, or latest creation you must always give the people what they want. Find your place in the creator world and stick to it!
As for the quality of content, you truly don’t need a fancy camera to get the job done. I know a plethora of successful bloggers who take all of their photos on their phone! They’ve mastered a clear and bright image with a cohesive look and feel. If you do want to invest in a fancy camera, I shoot with a Canon EOS M50 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. I used to shoot with a Rebel t3ii body, but the mirrorless M50 is much more compact. If these sound like mumbo-jumbo to you, let me know and I’ll write a post all about how I shoot my blog photos!
Growing Your Instagram Tip #4: Consistency, Consistency, Consistency!
Unfortunately, growing your Instagram or blog takes a lot of your free time away from you. Well… that may be a bit of a dramatic exaggeration, but you will still be spending a lot of time on the app. This includes interacting with other bloggers and accounts to form relationships. Visiting the explore page to see what’s trending and interacting with new bloggers. Posting at a consistent time to your followers start to recognize when to expect a post from you. And answering/responding to comments that people leave on your photos! Every now and then I take breaks from Instagram and people actually do start to notice. So much so, that I’ll jokingly apologize for going M.I.A. for a few days. Consistency is extremely important to a steady amount of growth on your account. Without it, your analytics may vary week to week depending on how interactive you were with your feed!
