Christmastime is over, but there is still a cold and snowy winter to come. Post-Holidays is a tricky time to decorate without looking like you are dragging the holidays on forever. Well we are here to help with our easy DIY rustic trees!
Pass these masterpieces off to a loved one or keep them for yourself for decorations! Either way these trees are sure to please
Time Duration:
– 1 to 2 hours depending on how many trees you make
What You’ll Need:
– Wooden bases
– Sticks from outside
– Green, white, and oatmeal colored felt
– Twine or dark colored string
– Hot glue and hot glue gun
Step 1: Gather
We searched outside for a few sticks to act as the trunk of the trees, we recommend this because it’s more eco friendly and look more authentic! The wooden bases and felt were all purchased at our local craft store and were the perfect texture!
Step 2: Decide
Once you have all of the necessary items, it’s time to really begin! Match up all of your sticks to determine which height you want your trees. We went for a staggered set of three. In order to create a trunk thick enough for the trees to stand on their own, we hot glued two to three branches together by wrapping the tops and bottoms with twine. This allowed for extra support and added a more rustic appearance to the trees.
Step 3: Multiply
Now that you have laid out your sticks and decided on how many trees you want to create, it’s time to get cutting! We used a simple pine-tree stencil found online and traced them onto the felt. The more pine trees you cut out, the fuller your trees will look in the end.
Step 4: Assemble
The next step is pretty simple: Fold a single pine-tree cutout in half and apply hot glue to the outer edge. Stick the edge onto the trunk of the tree and hold for a few seconds until the glue dries. Continue this around the entire tree until you’ve reached desired fullness! Do this for all of your trees. You can add in an extra bit of glue at the top of the tree to stick all of the pieces of felt together!
Step 5: Foundation
Once your trees are fully assembled it is time to glue them to their bases. We decided to stack some of the bases for extra height — this is optional! Add a generous amount of hot glue to the base where you would stick the trunks, then place the trees on the base. Continue to hold the tree in place for a few seconds while the glue dries, adding in extra hot glue where there may be space to fill.
Step 6: Be proud of your creation! Display these trees for the world to see your talent!
